The course is designed for students who have no formal training in film studies. It will provide both basic training of film analysis and a chronological survey of film history through introduction to canonical films and significant movements. The class time will be divided into two parts, lecture and discussion, each takes up about 80 minutes. Jerome Li will deliver half of the lectures as indicated below. The tentative syllabus is as follows:
